Geocache Description:

You're looking for a small, weatherproof container with a log, pencil, and room for a few small items only. Please replace container exactly where you find it! Be respectful of the area and only visit during daylight hours. This is a very quiet cemetery, but beware of muggles during church service hours.

The old Pleasant Hill Cemetery predates the American Revolution. It is the resting place of soldiers from the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, and others from more recent days. People familiar with the area will recognize some last names, including Slifer, Lieth, and others.

I chose this location for my first cache because of the overwhelming sense of history I feel when visiting. Our shared sense of history binds us together; past, present, and future. It is important that we don't forget what our ancestors did that makes us who we are today. Knowing who labored to harvest food, raised livestock, and who cut down the trees is central to remembering what a hard, long road it was to get where we are today.

Just remembering is not enough, though. We also need to share that history with each other, tell those stories so they live on. History is not just about stuff in boxes on a shelf - it is a living, breathing thing that we pass on to the next generation. I hope the box I placed here encourages others to share their own piece of history with the world.

Be respectful of those buried here and take a moment to think of their struggles, passions, the lives they led.

** Congratulations to Birdguise & Tyson Sprandel for the joint FTF! **
