This cache has been archived.

Prime Reviewer: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. Geocache Description:

Rocky Creek Park is one of five State Parks in Somerville,TX around Lake Somerville. There are several trails and places for the kids to play. The park has an entry fee. Rocky Creek Park is operated by the US Army Corps of Engineers year-round. Entrance to the park is controlled with a gate house complex (open from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM, seven days a week). Most of the time the Park Rangers will let you in, to check out the park for free.

From the wandering trail
You can look or can stare,
You feel that you're close
But still you're not there.

On the bench you may sit
Where the signal is weak,
But look straight ahead
And there you must seek.

The tree that has fallen
Could fuel a large fire,
And there in its fork
Is an old worn out tire.

Take time out to appreciate the natural resources the lake and surrounding area have to offer. Fish and wildlife habitat abound. The floodplain provides aquatic, woodland and extensively cleared pasture habitats. Upland Post Oak Savannah provides habitat for wintering Bald Eagles and migrating Osprey. During the evening, White-Tail Deer, Grey Fox, Coyote, Raccoon, Opossum, Armadillo, Cottontail Rabbit and Bobcat can often be seen. The soils are perfect for Bluebonnets, Indian Paintbrushes and various sunflowers which blanket the park in the spring. Poisonous snakes common to this area include Copperhead, Cottonmouth, Texas Coral Snake and Western Diamondback Rattlesnake. Many non-poisonous snakes, such as the Hog-nosed Snake and several species of Garter Snakes, also inhabit the area. Fisherman enjoy catching Largemouth Bass, White Bass, Hybrid Bass, White Crappie, Bluegill Sunfish (Perch), Channel Catfish, Blue Catfish, and Flathead (Yellow) Catfish. Somerville Lake has enjoyed a reputation of being an excellent catfish lake for many years.
