Geocache Description:

Small park and grab - to encourage the exploration of an exceptional area.

The Cutter Theatre (aka The Metaline Falls School - circa 1912) is on the National Register of Historic places. It was designed by the renown architect, Kirkland Cutter, in 1912 and built soon after. It was a school, intended for 20 children in three classrooms. (It boggles my mind - as I look at the size of this building - for 20 children, and see the size of the classrooms that my grandchildren are in today.) When you go - the drive is fantastic - and if all you do - is drive up for the smiley - you are in for a treat. But, I would encourage you - plan to take some extra time - check out their web page - www.cuttertheatre.com, and go when it is open - so you can explore inside. The Theatre is open to the public - and whether you take a self guided or a guided tour - it is inspiring! Then also check out some of the different aspects of Metaline Falls. Carr's Landing, the Visitor Center, Riverwalk Park, Larsen "Rock House" circa 1914 - Washington Hotel (1906) - or take a picnic - and check out the dam's in the area. Box Canyon Dam - has a fun swimming area for kids, and Boundary Dam is a cool treat in the summer to go visit. Also check out Crawford State Park - and the Gardner Caves. Find out when they are doing tours of the caves and take advantage of the opportunity to explore them. The last information that I have - Crawford State Park / Gardner Caves are one of the Parks that they are considering closing due to budget constraints. (I will update this section when appropriate.) On a more recent note - the movie "The Postman" has many scenes in which this city plays an important part, including the face of Box Canyon Dam.
