This is a quick park and grab down by the river. The road isn't paved all the way but is packed river rock and you should be able to drive right to it. There is plenty of room to turn around.
Remmel Dam was built by Harvey Couch, the founder of Arkansas Light and Power, in 1924. He named it after his friend Colonel H.L. Remmel who used his influence with the Secretary of War to get a license to build the dam.
Trout are stocked below the dam and many flyfishers come here to try their luck.
The 5.9 mile section of the Ouachita River below the dam to Rockport is known to the locals as the Rockport Run. It is a class I stream and takes about 2-3 hours to float.
