Giorgio
Gaber, "
Mr. G." was born in Milan in 1939. His
real surname,
Gaberscik, is native to the region of Gorizia
in Slovenia.
As a child, was very poor health and, at the age of eight years
suffered a slight injury that gave him a paralysis of the hand. To
re-educate it he learned to play guitar from his brother.
Gaber
himself was used to say that his career was born from that
disease.
Gaber can pay for hist studies at the prestigious
Business and
Economics Bocconi University in Milan, thanks to the money
earned by playing in the famous local "
Santa Tecla". Here he
was that luck to know artists like
Adriano Celentano,
Enzo Jannacci and
Mogol that helped him to get an
audition to the recording studio "
Ricordi" where he was
asked to create a record directly by the owner.
He wrote his first hit, "Hello, I'll tell you," together with
Luigi Tenco and in the following years he wrote memorable
pieces including the famous "
la Ballata del Cerruti",
inspired by the theft of the Lambretta that he suffered. Also
participated in 4 editions of the "
Sanremo festival" and led
several television shows.
In 1970 he made his debut at the "
Piccolo Teatro di
Milano<7i>" with the musical show "Il Signor G. (
"Mr.
G") that was a turning point in his career especially because
of his particular way of being on stage alternating monologues,
music and creating a special atmosphere thanks to its humor and
social and politics. In 2001 he released his album "
La mia
generazione ha perso", after years that he had gone out only
with albums that were containing the entire recording of his many
shows.
He died in New Year's Day 2001, at Montemagno, Versilia, where he
had gone to spend Christmas there with his wife and daughter.
