*Please Note* Signage says "Forest currently open to public on Sundays & holidays only, due to logging operations". but I've seen others & been in myself when work is done for the day- it seems, when the bottom gates at Abbey Caves Rd are shut & locked
Was so dissapointed when council chopped all the trees down that we haven't been up here for years; but the 2nd event of the Parahaki MTB club's winter series, aptly named Skiddy Gorse, lured us back. Had so much fun and discovered there are many more tracks now, so just had to place a cache ![](http://www.geocaching.com/images/icons/icon_smile.gif)
Don't let the name put you off! You do not have to MTB, get muddy or go through gorse to make this easy find.
Distance to cache is about equal, whether approached from the bottom gate at Abbey Caves Rd or from the top gate on Memorial Drive
I like starting from the bottom, making the return easy, fast & fun.
The most direct approach is to use the straight Forestry road, but the MTB tracks are fun too
In addition to your GPS, there are some nice new signs to aid you from getting lost.TrailMap
