There’s no jumping involved in this event, but height
definitely comes into it - you have to estimate the height of a
very tall tree in the beautiful grounds of Saltram House.
The tree in question is a London Plane, at N50 23.061 W004
04.964. In the Gallery you can see a picture of an item that you
might find useful to help you. All you need to make one for
yourself is: a cheap protractor, a straw, a piece of string, a TB
(or a key will do) and some sticky tape. Using this, your GPS and
some maths you should be able to get a pretty accurate estimate of
the height.
If you are taking part in the Olympic Caching Decathlon, please
put your estimate of the tree's height (in metres) in your online
log. If you are not taking part in the decathlon, you are welcome
to visit the cache, but please do not put any guesses in your
logs.
At the end of the competition, the places will be awarded to
those closest to the tree's actual height.
Many thanks to the National Trust for their permission to
place this cache.
