George of the Bush Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

blondebeauty& button: sadly due to the no trespassing signs put up at both the north and south entrances to the trail, because the bridge is in disrepair, and the township has no intention of fixing it in the near future, I have had to make the sad decision to archive the caches on this trail. It has been a great 9 year run! and I have enjoyed reading the logs from people that have found my caches. It makes my heart happy that my trail brought so much joy to people. <3

Geocache Description:

Located on an old rail trail accessible from LaSalle LIne, west of Tank Street. Look for a steel fence gate on the north side of the road, that is the start of the trail.

During the years 1862-63-64, the infant Petrolia slept, while Oil Springs budded, blossomed, bloomed and faded. It's "rock poured forth rivers of oil," and the oil ran down the "river".
In those days there was no railway, no highway, no pipeline. From Wyoming, by Petrolia, to Oil Springs was only 1 mud hole. It was 12 miles long, and of uncertain depth.
Oil men met - met frequently - and passed resolutions. Andrew Elliot built a plank road.
The original Great Western Railway had one branch line in Lambton, which ran south from the mainline, about 1 mile west of Wyoming to Petrolia. This line was built in 1866, opening on the 17th of December of that same year, by private interests in Petrolia when the GWR refused to build it for fear that the oil boom would end too soon to make it viable. The line turned out to be hugely profitable and the railwy soon bought it from it's' original builders, and operated it until amalgamation with the Grand Trunk Railway in 1882.
Cache is a camoed pill bottle that contains logbook, pencil and a few tradeables.
