Cache is located at the METU campus. For those who are not familiar, Middle East Technical University (METU) is one of the largest and best universities of Turkey. The campus covers an area of 45 square kilometers, including faculty buildings, dormitories, forests and even a lake. Nearly 70% of the campus is covered with forest. Since this is the very first cache we prepared, we made every effort to make sure that it is a nice one. The cache contains a small bag of lavender (hence the name- “Lavender by the lake”), a small model chair (made by my son Kuzey), a log book, a yellow smiling face made of mud, a pencil. Model chair is for the first person to find the cache. Please do not take away the bag of lavender in any case.
The cache is on the west side of the water reservoir, known as “DSI göleti” by the locals. When you get to coordinates turn your back to the reservoir and you will see two pine trees. The cache is on the ground of the pine tree on the right. It is covered with some pine leaves.
Some remarks- The reservoir is such a nice place to visit. You won’t believe when you get there that you are just a few kilometres away from a city of 3.5 million people. If you visit the cache area in spring or fall, you may come across with large number of migrating birds, especially swallows.
