There is a lovely walk between Newlands Forest and Kirstenbosch. Not for dogs, not recommended for very small children either.
If you park a car at Kirstenbosch, and then use another car to start at Newlands Forest parking lot there is a great one-way walk that can be done between the two. If you're quick walkers it can take as little as an hour and a quarter, but with smaller kids it can take about two and a half hours.
It is recommended that you walk from the Newlands Forest 'helicopter' parking lot, past the old 'Paradise' ruin [at about S33° 58.580 E018° 26.430], and then shortly after turn up and then left along the side of the fence, then up a small slope where the rest of the walk is along the dirt road into Kirstenbosch. Shortly after starting on this dirt road the cache is to be found near to the dirt road itself. An attraction of doing the walk this way around is that it can be really nice to look forward to the Kirstenbosch tea-room after the walk.
Unfortunately, you cannot bring your dogs along - there are Kirstenbosch signs detailing dog allowed areas and this is not one of them.
If you're starting from Kirstenbosch, it is along the dirt road marked "Newlands Forest/Lubbert's Gift".
Watch out for brambles near the hiding spot!
