Geocache Description:

Small walk with family following short drive after visit to our favourite local mountain location, Idyllwild.

If you haven't been to Idyllwild before, this will place you in view of Taquitz Peak ... look for tiny mountain climbers above :-) If you really enjoy hiking, there is a fire lookout above the peak but you should make it a day hike

The cache ... the lat/long location locates you on a large tree stump at 6636' elevation. Stand on the stump. Turn and face South/East and take 10 (adults) steps to the rock.

Inside you will find

  • 3 small self adhesive tatoos
  • 1 Border Patrol 'Career w/o Boundaries' softdrink holder
  • 1 Strap Pack
  • 1 24 Kodak Roll of Film (unused) I forget the ASA
  • 1 new pocket manual 'Pacfic Coast Berry Finder' I just purchased
  • 1 GIS software CD (180 day trail)
  • 1 PeekAchoo ... but then I removed after my five year old started crying about leaving it :-)
Thats it :-) .. see the image I included

Some fun suggestions after the cache ... thats all

  • There could be folks with sleds here in the winter months.
  • ... if you have not familiarized yourself with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) you should... particulaly since you enjoy the GPS. Install the software and log on to http://campus.esri.com and take a free intro class ... or contact me at the college (see my personal web page) After a nice hike and its before 3pm, stop at the local diner Jan's Red Kettle
  • hey .. if you are for a challange ... on the way down to Palm Desert, I hid another geocache ... only one visit so far since I placed it there last year ... probably only several hundred feet from the road ... a little climb over boulders to get there however : Pine to Palm Highway (California) by gisteacher (thats me) and the address is ... N 33° 35.043 W 116° 26.080 (WGS84) ... be sure to take a picture with the enclosed camera!
