Was a smallish sized regular, but due to the other containers being eaten... it is now a micro. Remember to bring a weapon of choice of writers and authors. No dogs are allowed in this area, sorry, but the geo-pups need to stay in the car if they are with you. Don't forget to scrape your shoes too, let's keep this area looking nice. Good parking coords to the area are: N 45° 25.882 W 122° 32.665 (North Side is closer) or N 45° 25.620 W 122° 32.663 (East Side).
Throughout time, Mt. Scott Creek has carved its way along the north side of Mt. Talbert. Most days it appears calm and serene, a wonderful place to sit and lose yourself from the chaos and craziness of the metropolis that surrounds it. However, this peaceful locale hides a dark secret.
When I first moved to this area three years ago, I was warned of this northern pathway that led into the trails along Mt. Talbert and to be wary if I ventured in the area near the creek. Local legend claimed of the bridge that crossed Mt. Scott Creek was the home to a large troll that wandered around Mt. Talbert.
Rumor had it that the troll, Mannasrut, named by the local native tribes of old, enjoyed tricking treasure seekers and travelers. He would play tricks on them, getting them hopelessly lost. As the legend tells, Mannasrut would hide things around the area, whispering into the ears of nearby travelers and then leaving clues to where the treasure lay.
As the treasure seekers would wander and find their way around, hoping to find their fortune, Mannasrut would follow them quietly. He would wait until they would make a turn on the trails and then turn himself into human form. He would do this time and time again, looking like a different person each time. This was meant to distract the treasure seekers into walking farther and farther from where the treasure lay hidden. Mannasrut took great pleasure and enjoyment out of this trickery. Though he is rarely seen, it is often said that he can still be heard rustling in the brush, staying just out of sight.
Legend also says that if a treasure seeker brought along their brave canine companion, Mannasrut would realize how hungry he was and find ways to separate the traveler from their companion. Mannasrut has an insatiable appetite for canines. Many times, weary and lost treasure seekers and travelers not heeding the warning signs as they entered the area, would emerge from the forest alone and distraught, their beloved four-legged friends no longer with them.
If you choose to seek treasure on Mt. Talbert, be forewarned as I was! Mannasrut is unforgiving if he has you in his sight. Heed the signs at the start of the trails! Leave your canine friends in your car (please don’t feed the troll) and be glad you did as you emerge, for they could have become a Mannasrut snack. It is also believed that if you scrape your shoes before you enter the area, the chance of Mannasrut finding you is diminished. Beware of muggles on the trails, for they could be Mannasrut coming to trick you.
Heed the warning and best of luck to all of you who seek this treasure.
