A small cache with two stages. It requires a stroll across tarmac and shale paths of Frickley Colliery Country Park. Depending on whether the car park on Doncaster Road is used, or footpath entrances from local residential streets, the route will either have slight undulations or have a couple of minutes of uphill slog. The ground may be soft in places in winter or after rain, and as the site is quite exposed the wind can be strong and chilly.
Frickley Country Park was created on reclaimed coal mining land, and is now owned by Wakefield District Council. The park is located between the small town of South Elmsall and the attractive village of Hooton Pagnell.
The location of the final cache itself is relatively open; there are no nettles, no stooping, etc.
You will need to visit the intermediate point first (no hints!), for which the coordinates are given.
You can then complete the coordinates of the actual cache by noting some figures down.
The coordinates of the cache are as follows:
53 AA BBB
1 CD CFF
Visit the intermediate point. You will be able to make obervations and fill in the missing numbers by via the key, below.
AA – last 2 digits of Newhill Seam, minus 10.
BBB – 2nd, 3rd and 4th digits of Barnsley Seam (ignore decimal point), plus 4
C – 1st character of Shafton Seam
D – 2nd digit of Dunsil Seam
FF – first 2 digits of Barnsley Seam
The cache is modest: paper and a pencil to log your visit, plus a couple of nick-nacks
The site is quite remote and quiet, but beware of fishermuggles.
