Geocache Description:

"Growing Up In Saugus (GUIS)".

Arroyo Seco Junior High, home of the Conquistadors. The school seems so small now, but when I was 11-years-old and facing it for the first time, it was pretty intimidating. Since I lived a ways up Bouquet Canyon, I arrived to school on a bus.

Changing classes is what is always new to a Junior High student as opposed to staying in one classroom all day as it is in Elementary School. I remember being very excited to seek out my new classrooms each new semester. Given that every teacher has their own personality and teaching techniques and fortes, changing classes is a very good thing. If one has a grouch for English, like Mrs Burch was, I only had to put up with her for an hour each day. Then there was Mr Murray who had us dissect frogs in Science. He was famous for also being a mortician, and kids would laugh at the way he would carry his briefcase up and down the stairs as if he were carrying a casket. Mr Newbauer didn't teach me how to do equations correctly, but Mr VanAlphen came along and taught me how to put word problems into equations...then what? Mr Obar taught me both Geography and History, then went on to become Dean at Saugus High. PE class, well, let's all agree that it is a horrifying experience learning to change clothes and shower in front of virtual strangers.

My favorite class was choir. It was in that class that I met my best-friend, my BFF. She and I are still best friends today...I am not going to say how many years later...I was even the maid-of-honor in her wedding. She and I met when we were practicing to perform in a "Lei Day" pageant (Hawaiian). We got matched as a pair because of our significant heights. Oh, well, we are both Scandinavian Vikings! To this day, we both remember the songs of that Hawaiian pageant!

It was in eighth grade English class that I saw my, who would turn out to be 6-year-long crush, "Scooby Doo". We gave him that nickname because of his initials S.D. I spent every recess and lunch that year, studying his every movement. I should have gotten an "A" in that subject!

School was fun, growing up in Saugus, and it couldn't have been much better.

When searching for this cache, please don't appear suspicious or creepy. It would be best not to arrive during school beginning and release times since there will be car loads of muggles and on foot. This is a very small container. Please DON'T leave any SWAG, since the attachment device is not very strong. BYOP
