A little known picnic ground near the banks of the Mitchell River, Picnic Point was the site of an early river crossing. Picnic Point was considered a good buggy or boat ride from Bairnsdale for picnic outings.
The area also has evidence of occupation by Aboriginal clans of the Gunai/Kurnai people.
The area is being restored, with weed eradication; the construction of a wetlands boardwalk, picnic facilities and general maintenance by the Friends of Picnic Point. There is a that goes past GZ - so please stay on the paths and don't go cross country and destroy the hard work of the Friends.
It is an area worthy of exploring.
The cache is a 400ml system and is full of little teddy bears.
Please take care when retrieving and replacing the cache, as you will need to leave the path, but follow the pathways to reach the area near GZ so we can preserve the work of the Friends of Picnic Point. Parking is available nearby.
