Geocache Description:

This is a great spot near to Balliesward croft.

It's the biggest cache container I could find.

It's a fairly level walk to the cache but the ground is a little rough and if you try to walk directly between the parking area and the cache you're going to get your feet wet!!

The Bailliesward name is believed to be derived from the cattle keeper. This is one of the few houses in this part of Scotland to have a cellar. The crofter believes it was a holding cell for rustlers!!

The croft orginally had a water wheel providing the house with power but this has fallen into disrepair - although the current owner would like to have it working again.

The croft has no mains electricity - it gets it's electric from a home made wind turbine, and a diesel generator. It has no water supply taking it's water off the hill!

The crofter is a rather eccentric gentleman and helped place the cache, if he's around he'll tell you all about wind turbines and other bit's he's made over the years.

CAMPING. The crofter welcomes wild campers and there is space near the cache site for a couple of tents. If you park carefully, there is also space for a camper van.

PARKING. Please keep the access roads clear as they are used frequently. Also avoid during the Speyside Rally (early August) as one of the special stages starts from here.
