Geocache Description:

The 2011 Walker Cup will be played on the Balgownie Links of Royal Aberdeen Golf Club, the sixth-oldest club in the world, on 10 & 11 September 2011.

The best amateur golfers from the USA will contest the 43rd Match against the team from Great Britain and Ireland. Past competitors have included Tiger Woods, Luke Donald, Padraig Harrington, Anthony Kim, Jeff Overton and Rikki Fowler.

The United States leads the series, 33-7-1.

The cache owner, when not actively engaged with a GPS in hand, has been known to partake of the hobby that Mark Twain unkindly described as a "Good Walk Spoiled". You will see a common theme to my pastimes; trudging through invariably wet terrain looking for objects that prefer to remain hidden from view? Great!

The cache is appropriate, but the log is very small - initials only please. You will need tweezers or paper clip to extract and you will need to have a pen or pencil to make your mark. Please replace cache exactly as you find it.

The Cache Owner works in Aberdeen and will be able to maintain this cache. However, in order to get this published I have asked Stinky_Dog to act as my Proxy, as, officially, my Caching base is in Dorset, and, quite rightly, Reviewers are wary of non-local people setting caches that might not be maintained.

Stinky_Dog has kindly agreed to act as my proxy; however I would urge anyone with any questions or issues with this cache to contact me in the 1st instance as I will normally be in a position to act within 2-3 days.

Update

The match has now taken place. GB&I won to return the trophy back to these shores for the 1st time in four matches. Well Done!!
