ICONIC AIRCRAFT
OF THE ROYAL AIR FORCE
This Multi Cache Series celebrates the long
association that Lincolnshire has held with the Royal Air Force.
Known as the ‘Bomber County’ because of the number of
active airfields within the county during World War II, the total
was forty nine of which twenty eight were Bomber Bases, the county
had more airfields than any other county in England. Today you can
visit Aviation Museums and Heritage Centres, watch Spitfire and
Lancaster Bomber aircraft flying around the local area. Spend a day
around Lincoln and watch the Red Arrows practising their Pre-Season
displays, or view the multitude of aircraft that arrive and depart
from RAF Waddington. There are a total of seven caches in the
series and they are located around the village of Heighington.
Caches 1 to 4 are to the north of the village, whilst Caches 5 to 7
are to the south. Please note that there is a busy road between
cache 5 and 6 so please take care. Each contains an information
card on one of the iconic aircraft. You need to note the
information on the cards as this will be required for the Bonus
Cache. The Bonus Cache contains the Most Iconic
aircraft in the RAF. Please note this is only
my opinion and I maybe biased! Most caches contain a log, pencil
and a few trinkets on placements, but please bring a pencil just in
case.
