A basic cache hidden in Woodchester Park, near Woodchester Mansion, placed with the kind permission of the Woodchester Mansion Trust Ltd. The cache is about one mile from the Coaley Peak car-park (free) and slightly less from the National Trust Woodchester Valley car-park (fee payable). Access is down an easy walking track. Woodchester Valley is mostly owned by the National Trust with year-round access. However the cache is in part of the valley owned by Stroud District Council and on long lease to Woodchester Mansion Trust. The valley is wooded, about 3 miles long and has way-marked walks around lakes and up to view-points on the side of the valley.
The cache is in a plastic "lock-and-lock" box in a black draw-string sack. Original contents were a notebook, pen and pencil with various small objects, including some old pennies, a "key to nowhere", safety pins, "gold" buttons, a Mansion leather coaster, a Mansion wooden tourist disc (collector's item), postcards, a child's wooden bracelet, some thimbles and more.
Be warned, mobile phone reception in the valley is very patchy - see some of the logged comments.
To reach the cache you may have to go into a roped off area. Just ensure the rope is back in place after you have left.
The Woodchester Mansion open season for 2016 is from 22 March to 30 October. Not open on Mondays (exception, Mansion IS open on Bank Holiday Mondays), so there may be less people that day of the week, although the area is popular with walkers. Also as the Mansion opens at 11:00am there are usually less people around each day before then.
