NOTE: Final Location and calculations have been revised as of Sept. 2023. Apparently cattle are notorious languid animals and will usually make their way home at an unhurried pace. This saying, "til the cows come home", is credited to have originated in Scotland in the mid 1800s. Basically meaning one will continue for a long time doing the task. How often does this apply to us cachers? When the Golden Ears Way was constructed, it divided some of the local farms. Therefore a tunnel was built so the cattle could travel from the separated field back to the barns. Depending on the days, they may be grazing in this field. Sadly, a man lost his life during the construction of this portion of the road and a memorial cross has been erected nearby in his honor.
Stage 1: Park on the side road ONLY. Using the above coordinates find the Utility Box and Telephone pole which is south of the Utility box. The Pole and Utility box is on this Quiet side street/ access road to only the farm to the south.
There is a yellow metal tag on the pole. You will need some numbers from this tag to determine the final coordinates for the cache location. The yellow tag will provide the numbers required to determine the solutions for letters B to H, below.
Final coordinates: N 49 1A.BCD W 122 3E.FGH
A = Numbers of hinged doors on the Utility box, then Add 1.
B to H require numbers from the yellow tag on the pole.
B = 1st row (top line), 4th # plus 0.
C = 1st row, 12th # plus 4.
D = 2nd row, 1st # plus 3.
E = 2nd row, Add 4th and 5th numbers.
F = 2nd row, 8th # minus 2.
G = 1st row, 8th # plus 3.
H = 1st row, 6th # plus 5.
Check: Numbers for A to H will total 56.
The cache is within 5 kms and can be accessed by vehicle with a short walk or bicycle along the Pitt Meadows/Maple Ridge dyke pathway system. The cache is a micro, so there is only room for a log, so BYOP.
