Geocache Description:

The Texas Spirit Quest
is a series of Caches placed by many individuals, near cemeteries and historic sites in hopes of paying respect to the many pioneer ancestors that have ‘walked’ before us.

There are hundreds of cemeteries in the rural communities across Texas. This series will introduce you to many of them. The cache pages will provide a virtual history tour of the cemeteries, tombstones and local lore.

Technically, there are two cemeteries here, Comanche North and South. This section is also known as the James Family Cemetery. There may be as many as 110 interments between the two sites, with the oldest dating back to 1887 and the latest taking place in 2011. There are a good number of graves for individuals whose names have been lost to the mists of time. Sources state that these are African-American cemeteries, and members of the Burditt, Haws, Houston, James, and Sterling families are buried here, along with the ubiquitous Fowlers.

Comanche North is enclosed by a chain link fence; the South site is open. Both would benefit from some maintenance, and there is a bit of litter here and there, as these are right alongside the road. To find the cache, you will not need to wander far across the grounds at all--this is basically a park-and-grab. As always, any refinements to the listed coordinates are welcomed.
