Geocache Description:

"You Can't Roller Skate __ _ _______ ____" was a Top 40 hit for Oklahoma singer/songwriter Roger Miller in 1966. If you can complete the lyric, you've got a leg up on solving the theme of this Lawton cache run. All 12 caches are micros or smaller. High muggle factor at most locations, so use extreme stealth.

This was originally conceived to be a single multi-cache, but the more we looked, the more locations we found. I don't know anyone who's got the patience for a 12-part multi-cache, so we did it this way. The series was placed for the enjoyment of the SouthWest Area Geocachers (SWAG) and the Texoma Geocaching Assn. (ToGA) when they gathered for a meeting in Lawton. At this stop, you're looking for camouflaged bison tube (what else!) hidden in the vicinity of this statue, a tribute to black soldiers in the U.S. Cavalry. Not many pedestrian muggles, but you won't be able to escape the onlookers driving by, so pretend to be a tourist and use stealth. Trivia: There are many stories as to how black Cavalrymen in the post-Civil War era earned the name "buffalo soldiers." One of them is that a group of Cheyennes coined the term after a band of them did battle with a military escort that included Pvt. John Randall of the 10th Cavalry Regiment. They said that, after being repeatedly wounded, Randall fought "like a cornered buffalo." In 1877, the first African-American to graduate from West Point, Henry O. Flipper, was assigned to the 10th Cavalry Regiment at nearby Fort Sill. This distinguished group constructed many of the stone buildings still surrounding the old post quadrangle. Also, if you happen to be caching in Texas, please be aware that there's a related cache 14 miles west of Burkburnett on SH-240. The cache (GC2GXQQ) is located a few feet from a historical marker designating a massacre of 10th Cavalry members at a garrison along the Red River in 1875. Congratulations to cwby416 for the FTF!
