Geocache Description:

Cache is a park and grab for this historically significant area. Krug Park was one of the first park lands donated by the Krug family to the city. Later a great cohesive Parkway System would be built from here to Hyde Park in the Southern section of the city.

text describing the image

Photo shows an early scene of this original gate to the Park. Most of the early traffic was horse and carriage which later gave way to the electric trolley cars. Nowadays this entrance is not used since auto traffic goes into the park and uses any of the parking sites inside the park. The Park "Bowl" or amphitheater is one of the finest ever made rivaling the Hollywood Bowl in California. Please use stealth even tho the amount of pedestrians are much fewer today. Enjoy the area and visualize the early days of the stone towers on each side of this entry. Many changes have come and gone to Krug Park from Botanical Gardens to a large animal zoo. Many performances were done at the bowl compared to the few now. Today, "Holiday Park" is one of the big displays in the park at Christmas time where a larger than life size replica of Santa, his Sleigh, and Reindeers are displayed having once graced the roof of the Mead (Wes-Tab) Factory Building at 11th and Mitchell. Cache released as part of the Jesse James Cache Bash 4 games. It is placed with permission of the Park and Recreation Department.
