This route should complement the excellent trails set by Loopyhoop and POMZ and should give cachers a choice of circular walking routes. You can also collect 'Seventeen Arches', which lies between my 6th and 7th caches.
The distance from the Glover Lane gate to the last cache 'GBWR#7:Batty Neighbours' is about 0.9 of a mile and collecting the bonus will add aproximately 1/4 mile on to the total. The 1066 path crosses this trail and you can leave the rail trackbed at marked post 13 and cross the marshes into Crowhurst. Surprised Squirrels' 'A Prickly Post'(GC2X7Y6)is approximately 0.8 miles from the end of the of this trail.
The passengers in this photo, getting on board the train at Bexhill West Station, would go through only one stop on their way to Crowhurst - at Sidley. Then, when they'd passed beneath this bridge they were out in open country with the excitement of the spectacular viaduct crossing just ahead of them. The sides of the line were kept clear of foliage so all the trees that you'll see have probably grown since 1964.
It's a pity that they added the metal gate at the top of this path as it blocks cyclists using this track - but it was probably placed to stop horses. My daughters brought their horse down this path - a hair-raising walk but worth it for the excellent trail ahead of them. The horses that you see on the trail will now have come through the gates from Glovers Farm, a livery stable.
Very, very few people know that this trail is here. Older Bexhill residents have probably forgotten about it and newer ones would have no inkling that it exists because it is not highlighted by the community in any way. Only the riders, the dog-walkers - and now geocachers - share the secret of this excellent, unspoilt and historic trail.
SADLY, THE BEXHILL BYPASS IS NOW BEING BUILT THROUGH THIS AREA SO UNSURE OF THE FUTURE OF THIS TRAIL. ENJOY IT WHILE YOU CAN.
