Mont Vernon is one of the more rural small towns along the southern edge of New Hampshire. There is much more open space and wetlands than commercially zoned areas. (In fact, I know of no business property in the town! There was a village store on Main Street, but it has been vacant for several years.) The Mont Vernon Conservation Commission works to ensure development has no adverse impact on our natural resources and open spaces.
Horton Pond is one of the fine, little-used waterways within the town’s borders. When I kayak here, there is usually no one else around to disturb the birds, turtles and lily pads, but me.. The water is clearest in Spring, but can grow murky in late Summer. Still, there is always some good water especially out in the middle of the pond.
This cache is the first of two I’m planning to place here. It should not prove difficult to find, though the darker woods may cloud your GPSr. Just use your geo sense to look for this small camouflaged container. I expect it to be winter friendly except in the harshest of winter snowfalls.
Initial contents include log sheets and a small pencil, the 'Lisa Simpson' travel bug, and a few other trinkets.
