CKTV 3 – Dr Who Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Treecrabs: We are sadly left with little choice but to archive Dr Who. The original cache began at a police phone, but then the police station was closed and the phone removed. We worked with that and rejigged the cache a little, with it still leading to the same place. Now, that place, a phone box has been removed. With no police phone to start, or phone box to finish, the cache has somewhat lost its point - it's not becoming a nano on the nearby bench purely so that it still exists.

Geocache Description:

Cult Kids
TV
This is a non-continuous series of caches all based around Cult Kids TV programmes. They will come from any period of television and some will be well known, others less so. The intention is to provide a range of caching locations, containers and level of challenge. The series will be added to over time…so watch this space!

Dr Who needs no introduction, having had generations of children hiding behind sofas since 1963. It ran through until 1989, when following years of declining ratings (not helped by being scheduled against the most popular TV programme at the time, Coronation Street), it was suspended and effectively cancelled. A one-off television film in 1996 was meant to reignite production, but failed. Late in 2003, Russell T Davies became involved, and the revived Doctor Who has been a phenomenal success since it eventually hit the screen again in 2005.
The cache is not at the published location…a little research is required. It is a simple multistage puzzle for which you will need to do the basic research before you go, and then tweak the numbers on the hoof. Locations 1 and 3 have ample free parking and are around 500 metres apart. Location 2 is best arrived at by walking from Location 1 as parking is limited. There are some fairly busy roads in the area, so be careful with mini-cachers.
All of the boxes referred to are features of the environment you are in, NOT cache containers of any kind. Do not spend time searching for them as they should be immediately obvious. If they aren’t, you’re in the wrong place!

Location 1
52 53 Davison Zero Hartnell
001 09 Zero McCoy Davison

When at the location, stand in front of the green box and look up for the yellow box on which you will find 11 digits. Label these A - K. You need these to find location 2.

Location 2
52 53 (D-B) (Tennant - G) (Tom Baker x H)
001 08 (E) (Eccleston - J) ((F + Pertwee) – C)

In the spirit of Dr Who, the original version of this cache took you to a police telephone. Unfortunately, that has since been removed in the name of rationalisation. To find 'X' now, look diagonally across from where you are and high on a wall, you will see an old road sign. Add up the fractions of miles that are on this sign. That number will be X and is needed in addition to A - K

Location 3
52 53 (Troughton + X) (Colin Baker/G) (Smith – 2X)
001 08 (McGann-X) (No. of Doctors in the title of the 20th Anniversary Episode + (Tom Baker/B)) (Pertwee + A)

You are looking for a large nano or small micro, depending on which way you wish to look at it, contained in a big, grey box.
