Geocache Description:

Some of these trees have no business growing in Delaware...yet here they are!

I have placed this cache close to the spot of what remains my all time favorite Delaware cache, COLLINS BEACH, which was archived a few months ago. It sits on the site of a truly unique (and somewhat creepy) property, not far from Collins Beach, the site of a devastating ten-foot-tall, storm-surge-induced tidal wave that destroyed a very well known resort called Hygenia House back in 1878.

The red gate at the end of Thoroughfare Neck road is closed at times. If it is closed, park at the lot directly across from the gate and walk in. Doing so will add about another .5 to your walk, but when you see the property, it will be worth the extra time.

As you follow the path from the house to a great old cemetery, notice the trees as you walk. When you arrive at the cache itself do the same. Whether you consider yourself an Arborist (tree expert) or not, you will notice a tremendous variety of trees present on this little stretch of land, many of which you will be unable to find anywhere else in the state of Delaware. They were clearly brought in from elsewhere and have taken root. But why were they brought in, and by whom? Do they have any sort of special significance? Can YOU solve the "Mystery of the Trees"?
