Geocache Description:

Location- path leading to Aston hall lake on the left hand side. Container- small holds log book and smaller items. Accessibility- not suitable for those with pushchairs or wheelchairs (sorry). Parking is not available directly next to the cache however it is available at the start of the trail at Weston village hall.

The cache is located just to the side of the path leading to the lake at Aston hall a large White coloured house built in 1735 with further additions made later on. The house served as an auxiliary hospital in the first world war. Following the death of Colonel William Dickinson Winterbottom the hall and grounds went to auction in 1924 and was bought by Nottingham corporation and in 1926 opened as a colony for the mental deficient. The 80's and 90's saw the hall go through a shut down process as the patients were moved and parts closed then in 1995 the hall was sold off to private developers and is now apartments and offices however it still retains many of it's original features such as it's iconic stone coloured paint. The cache is small in size and holds a log book and will hold smaller items. Due to the path leading to the cache the cache is unsuitable for those with pushchairs or wheelchairs (sorry).
