Geocache Description:

Location- Side of road near former Aston hall hospital. Container- micro (film canister) only holds log book. Accessibility- suitable for those with pushchairs or wheelchairs. Parking is available on the roadside so a cache and dash is available however as it is part of a larger trail where parking is available at the start at Weston on Trent village hall.

The cache is located on the outskirts of the grounds of the former Aston hall hospital a colony for the mentally deficient with parts of the sites ratings back to the 1930's. The hospital was built on the grounds of the Aston hall estate when Nottingham corporation acquired the estate at auction in 1926. The hospital remained in use until fairly recently (2004) and housed south derby shires only hydrotherapy pool.when the hospital was finally closed the residents were moved to smaller bungalows next door. Since closure the hospital has fallen into private ownership however due to the economic down turn very little has been done to the site thus the hospital has sadly fallen into a state of decline with areas inside the hospital being smashed and graffiti scrawled across Walls. The cache is a micro in size so only has space for a log book. The cache is available for a cache and dash as it on the side of a quiet road (maple drive) servicing the small local estate built in the early 2000's. The cache is suitable for those with wheelchairs and pushchairs as the terrain is fairly easy going being as it is Tarmaced.
