Cache is one of 6 we have placed in the woods to highlight the rich history of the area.

This walk takes you through the former Valleyfield Estate and remnants of a
Humphry Repton designed landscape, completed between 1800 and 1804.

The short walk to the last answer will take you close by 2 important areas within the woods. These are :

1;/ REPTON ARCH - This rusticated stone archway is similar in style to two bridges
that Repton built across Bluther Burn as part of a new carriage
drive from Newmills to Valleyfield House. He also enhanced
the glen with similar rugged blocks of imported stone.

2;/REPTON WALLED GARDEN AND ORNAMENTAL CANAL - This south facing flower garden would have been visible from
the house high on the far bank of the burn. The rear wall was
heated with warm air from furnaces being passed up its centre.
Lean-to glass houses against the wall would have been used to
grow pineapples and other exotic fruit for the table.
The ornamental linear pond or canal was strongly criticised
by Scottish landscape designers of the day as being inappropriate
in a beautiful glen.

There is also said to be an entrance to an Ice House nearby but we had no luck finding it.

Go to Waypoint 1 (the info board) and answer the following:

1/Humprey Repton was born in 175A
2/Humphrey Repton died 181B
3/C=7
4/.The Woodland park opened in 19D0
5/Floating Bob died 18E4
6/Sir Robert Preston was born in 1F40

AT Waypoint 2 answer the Following: how many Arches can you see (answer = G)

Cache is at N56.04.A(B-2)(C+G) W003.35.D(E+2)(F-2)

Final cache is located close to what used to be a Deer Park according to a map from 1810 but is now full of horses.

This has been muggled twice so we have moved it slightly.Tree cover could make it a tricky find as it is well hidden

Paths are a mixture of surfaces so wellies, strong boots are advised.

Lots of Dog Walkers in the area so please return cache exactly as found.Thanks.

WELL DONE TO CLACHANMAN FOR FTF
