A nice walk in the woods. No clues as yet. Let's see how it goes.
A little off the beaten track, Kempston is a peaceful wood with delightful views across the Marston Vale – a thoughtfully positioned seat helps you enjoy the panorama. This is an historically important ancient woodland site, with ditch and bank separating an area formerly managed by coppicing and the other where animals were allowed to graze beneath the trees.
Ash, oak and field maple trees, complemented by shrubs such as hazel, blackthorn, spindle, and geulder rose provide a home to woodpecker, nuthatch and tree creeper. There’s a good chance of spotting the small muntjac deer during your visit. Spring brings a good show of flowers – among them bluebell, early-purple orchid, wood anemone and wood-sorrel.
The paths are generally good, though some sections are rather steep.
Cache placed with the kind permission of Woodland Trust.
Please Note : The land to the South West of Kempston Wood is private. There is another cache over there but there is no direct access between the two without crossing private land. The best access to Kempston Wood is via footpaths via Tithe Road.
