Kostol v Kocelovciach – teraz evanjelicky – sa prvykrat
spomina v roku 1318, ma polygonalnu svatynu so sakristiou na
severnej strane, jednu lod a na zapadnej strane vezu. Svatynu
v 14. storoci vyzdobili malbami vo viacerych pasoch, su to
vyjavy zo zivota Krista, napriklad: Zvestovanie, Narodenie,
Klananie troch kralov, Korunovanie Panny Marie, Prichod do
Jeruzalema, Posledna vecera, Kristus v Getsemanskej zahrade,
Bicovanie, Nesenie kriza, Ukrizovanie, Snimanie
z kriza, Ukladanie
do hrobu ..., su tu este postavy styroch evanjelistov
i svatych uhorskych kralov a sv. Katarina. Malby boli
v obdobi reformacie zatrete vapennym naterom a objavil
ich az koncom 19. storocia Istvan Groh. V roku 1976 odkryl
Jiri Josefik fragmenty nastennych malieb z 15. storocia aj na
severnej stene lode (Bicovanie Krista) a na vitaznom obluku zo
strany lode (sv. Jakub Putnik).

The church in Kocelovce – evangelical now – first
mentioned in 1318, has a polygonal presbytery with
a sacristy on the northern side, one nave and a western
tower. The presbytery was in the 14th century decorated with wall
paintings in separated lines, there are scenes from the life of
Christ, f. e. the Annunciation, Nativity, Adoration of the Magi,
Coronation of the Virgin, Arrival to Jerusalem, the Last supper,
Christ in Getsemane, Flagellation, Bearing the Cross, Crucifixion,
Deposition, Entombment of Christ ... and figures of the four
Evangelists, of the Hungarian 
royal Saints and St.
Catherine. The wall paintings were since the Reformation covered by
a lime-layer up to the end of the 19th century when Istvan
Groh revealed them. In 1976 Jiri Josefik discovered fragments of
paintings from the 15th century on the northern wall of the nave
(Flagellation of Christ) and on the triumphant arch (St. James the
Greater).
