Wharley Point Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

TheHPs: The cache location looks like it has been trashed....the wooden posts next to the gate have been removed and left on the floor and the cache has gone. I'm archiving due to the state of the site.

Geocache Description:

A small traditional cache placed beside the path in what we think is an obvious place! Bring your own pen and please replace as found, it may be obvious to casual observers otherwise. This is the first cache we've hidden, so we hope we have done a fairly good job. We wanted to hide a cache in a location we visit regularly and near a good viewpoint. The path is good, but not suitable for anything with wheels.

We've replaced the muggled cache for a second time and hidden it near the same spot as the second cache. If it disappears again, we'll have to resort to a micro. The view from Wharley point deserves a cache of some sort. The container is contained in a well washed covering - clothes pegs are not needed. As mentioned above, please replace as found.

Llansteffan is one of our favourite places for a walk. We start at the car park near the sea front and walk along the beach below the castle to Scott's Bay. Beware of the incoming tide when heading to Scott's Bay. From the Bay we go through the gate in front of St. Anthony's Cottage and follow the path through another gate. You could have passed the building on the right in the past, but now follow the coastal path signs to take you behind it and back onto the path towards Wharley Point. Continuing on this path from the viewpoint will take you to a road and turning right from the stile will lead you through Lord's Farm. The path goes straight through here and continues through the sometimes muddy fields returning you to the building previously passed. Beware, the footpath signage is non-existent after the farm. From Scott's Bay you can either walk along the beach to return to the car park, or turn left up the lane and follow the track to the castle and, eventually, back to Llansteffan.

An alternative car park closer to the cache is shown below. From here, walk towards the farm until you see a stile with a yellow footpath sign and gate to your right. This path will take you to the hide. If you pass a National Trust sign naming the farm, you've missed the footpath. When it's not cloudy, the view across Carmarthen Bay from the path along Wharley Point is superb. Stopping at the benches about 15 metres from the cache will allow you to take in the view of Caldy Island and the Pembrokeshire coast to the West and the Gower Peninsula to the South East.

Originally included in the cache was a small logbook and pencil, a trackable boot, a first to find badge, a MacMillan Nurse lapel badge, a magic marker pen and three smaller swaps. This geocache has been placed here with the kind permission of Mr. Williams who, together with his brother, lease Lord's farm and the surrounding land from the National Trust. In addition, we wish to extend our gratitude to the National Trust at Llandeilo for agreeing, in principle, to this hide.

Congratulations to springer5 for the FTF.
