Geocache Description:

[SWE] Flyttblock (erratiska block) är stora stenblock som blivit transporterade med hjälp av is, det kan vara inlandsisar eller glaciärer. Man anser att de flesta flyttblocken i Sverige idag har blivit transporterade under den senaste istiden. Flyttblocken transporteras på och i inlandsisar och glaciärer och förflyttas i isens rörelseriktning. Då isen smälter hamnar flyttblocken på den underliggande markytan. Flyttblocken kan också har transporterats i flytande isberg och därför hamna långt ifrån det ursprungliga isområdet.
Världens största flyttblock återfinns utanför Botsmark i Umeå kommun.

Jättekast i folktron
Förr i tiden då man fann stenblock på höga höjder trodde man att det var stora jättar som hade slungat iväg ett stort stycke berg som på så sätt hade landat högt uppe i högalpint fjäll. Därför gav man stenblocken namnet jättekast vilket på senare tid då man insåg den sanna historien ändrades till flyttblock.

[ENG] Erratic (erratic blocks) are large boulders that have been transported by ice, it could be ice sheets or glaciers. It is thought that most boulders in Sweden today have been transported during the last ice age. Boulders transported and in ice sheets and glaciers and ice moved in the direction of movement. When the ice melts the boulders ends up of the underlying surface. Moving blocks may also have been transported in floating icebergs and thus end up far from the original ice field.
The world's largest boulder is found outside Botsmark in Umeå municipality.

Giant boulders in folklore.
In the past, when they found boulders at high altitudes it was believed that there were giants who had thrown a large piece of rock so that it had landed high in the high alpine mountains. Thats why they named it giant boulders roll which in recent times when it was realized the true story was changed to boulder.
