Enjoy a short walk along scenic Lake Plumbago to the cache. It is located across US-41 from the historic Village of Alberta and sawmill that was built by Henry Ford in 1935. During construction, a dam was built on nearby Plumbago Creek. The resulting 20 acre reservoir provided a water supply for the mill, the log pond, and fire protection for the village. Today US-41 crosses this dam.
At the time Henry Ford established Alberta, wood was used extensively in automobiles. Wood from the Alberta sawmill played an important role in the classic "Woodie" era which lasted from about 1928 until 1951when wood was no longer an important component in automobile manufacturing. In 1954, the Ford Motor Company Fund gave the Village of Alberta and 1,700 acres of their forest lands to Michigan Technological University to be used as a research center, demonstration forest, and for forestry education.
You are looking for a small camo Lock N Lock container with enough room for some small trading items. The cache is not accessible in winter.
