Please read this link about White-nose syndrome in bats. This is a serious problem
that I'm sure everyone would like to help stop.
I've joined the Michigan Karst Conservancy which owns the
property this cache is on. I'm very interested in geology and they
are protecting a rare type of geology in Michigan. A quote from the
MKC.
"We ask that everyone treat the features of the Preserve in such a
way that their interest and appearance are not altered. Please do
not leave any food or litter along the trails, and consider using
the privy near the Emma Kalnbach History Pavilion (parking area)
before venturing onto the trails. A collecting permit from the
Preserve Committee is required to collect any animal, plant or
mineral specimens, and written permission and a qualified leader
are required from the Conservancy to explore any caves encountered
on the Preserve."
The Fiborn Karst Preserve was a limestone quarry from 1905
through 1935. Check out this link for more history of this area. Please stay on the
trail as long as possible. The ground can be uneven and hard to
walk on in places. I hope you will enjoy this area as much I as
do.
This cache is located within the Fiborn Preserve, which is owned
and managed by the Michigan Karst Conservancy. All of the preserves
managed by the MKC are free to visit. Parking is allowed only in
the designated areas. Always practice Cache In, Trash Out.
