Geocache Description:

Rediscovered in 2009, and uncovered in 2010 by volunteers, this Japanese Water Garden can be found within Bestwood Country Park.

The gardens have been cleared, but not to working order, so don't expect waterfalls etc but there is a sign providing some interesting information about the gardens.

Japanese gardens gained popularity in the late 19th century with the wealthy upper classes, and it is believed this garden dates from that period. It is believed that water flowed through the pipes to create waterfalls, streams and channels, but it is not known where the water actually came from. There is evidence it contained a red wooden bridge and a guardian stone.

The hotel nearby is Bestwood lodge and was built in 1862 by the architect SS Teulon as a hunting lodge for the Duke of St Albans.

Please be aware though the main paths are accessible to wheelchairs, bikes and pushchairs, the path to the cache and Japanese water gardens themselves are not.

KEEP A CLOSE EYE ON CHILDREN, IT'S GREAT FUN TO EXPLORE BUT BE CAREFUL WHEN IT'S WET AS IT CAN BE UNSTABLE AND SLIPPY. WE SUGGEST YOU AVOID DOING THIS ONE IN THE DARK!

Note this is now a micro and is in a slightly different spot, you may need tweezers and no room for a pen.
Due to several dnf and comments changed to a 3* difficulty. Note a 2* states can take up to 30 mins searching so please don't expect it to be obvious! 6/5/20 New cache container. Same location, but don’t rely on PAF! This is difficult.
