Geocache Description:

This is the first of a series of nano caches placed in our local area. We intend to plant a few more in the coming weeks, hopefully all in imaginative hides. So they may take a bit more hunting!!

Please remember to take your own pen to sign the log.

This nano cache can be found a short walk away from the A667 at Ringley. It is in the vicinity of the stone M7 marker close to the end of the canal.

The Manchester, Bolton and Bury Canal ran from Salford to Prestolee, near Little Lever, from where one arm ran to Bolton and another to Bury. The 15 miles of canal had 17 locks, including 4 staircases of two or three locks together. Two of its major aqueducts are still standing. It connected to the River Irwell in Manchester. A spectacular breach in 1936 led to the canal's eventual closure.
