Geocache Description:

Access from Turangi to Taumarunui state highway on 41 then turn onto 32 for 2 km. ( Western Bay Road) Turn right on to Whareroa Rd and travel along this road to the edge of Lake Kuratau. Go across the cattle stop and down the dirt road to the power station on Kuratau river.
Involves scrambling up rocks/slope.

The cache is a small container which can take small swaps. It is not on the banks of the stream or outlet from power station.
This is a lovely sheltered spot sheltered from the prevailing westerly wind in summer and a great spot or a picnic or fishing. The level of the stream can rise suddenly so take care.
A good spot for a book and chair on a sunny winter's day as it is so sheltered.
The Whareroa settlement of baches and homes is on the western shores of Lake Taupo. Continue on the sealed road to the lake edge where there is another cache. – Whareroa Stream- Rippling Waters
On a still evening the trout fishermen gather at the edge of Lake Taupo where the Whareroa Stream enters the lake. This is a peaceful spot to cast a line or have a picnic.
We have a bach here and visit every few weeks and stay longer in the summer months. We have friends who can help us maintain the cache.
