Geocache Description:

You'll need to use extreme stealth in this urban park!

ABOUT ORTON PARK: Orton Park is a beautiful, tree filled park on Madison's near east side, in the middle of a neighborhood near Lake Monona. It was named for Harlow S. Orton, who was Madison’s fifteenth mayor, elected in 1877, and that year cast the deciding vote in favor of purchasing the land to create this park. The land had previously been bought by John Schlimgen and Anton Steinle for $1,105. They originally planned to convert it into a beer garden! After a public outcry, the city bought the block from the two, and in 1877 turned it into a city park.

Harlow Orton adamantly opposed going to war against the Confederacy, and was a well known speaker regarding this topic. As described by the Weekly Wisconsin Patriot on January 31, 1863: “Never, in the annals of Madison, has such an immense indoors audience listened to such a masterly, eloquent, powerful speech as that delivered by Harlow S. Orton for the Democratic club of this city at the City Hall on Saturday evening. Every nook and corner of that large hall were jammed to their utmost capacity. The gallery was as full as it could be – every seat was occupied, and hundreds stood in the vacant places between and in the rear of the seats – all attention, all anxious, interested listeners – all absorbed – all electrified by the speaker’s powerful logic and irrefragible facts. It was a proud time for the Democracy, to be defended by one so able, and by facts so plain, simple and irresistible.”

ABOUT THE CACHE: You are looking for a nano cache. You will need to use extreme stealth for this cache, and nanos are always tough, so we set the difficulty at 3! A tweezer-like tool would be helpful to extract the log. Please take as much time stealthing, as you normally would do searching! Having a buddy with you is not mandatory, but would help to camouflage the find.

CONGRATS to Wrongway Junebug, Marble Guy & Madison Joe on their CO-FTF!!!!!!!!!!
