Geocache Description:

The 2nd of 9 caches based around Crosthwaite in the Lyth Valley, Cumbria taking in meadows, bridleways, some roads and plenty of paths.

Two or three A frame stiles that will need consideration for the canines ---BUT scenery which some of us can only dream about. At one point of the walk you can see the Lakeland fells around Coniston, The Langdales with Morecambe Bay Estuary in another direction, all at the same time.
The caches can be done individually, in groups on in total, with an estimated overall distance of about 7km (4 ½ miles pre decimilisation).
One or two , god forbid, could be done as drive by’s –but that would be a total shame.

Parking is available for about 3 cars just West of the road bridge over the River Gilpin at Hardrigg (see Waypoint) N54. 19.136 W002.52.226.

Cache containers are varied with some 35mm film canister sized containers, some small clip and lock boxes and a couple of screw top containers.
The route can be done by starting at any point to suit and in any sequence but we have numbered them 1-9 and the route instructions are based on our sequence. A current addition of a 1:2500 scale OS Map would be advisable to enable you to identify some of the footpath directions.
The wildlife and Birdlife in the area is superb and varied and on the day we put them out we spotted a Sparrowhawk, Buzzards, Woodpeckers, Treecreepers, Squirrels and a herd of deer.
WE hope you enjoy the Series.
NB. Some of the paths can be very muddy after rain and good quality footware is recommended.
THERE ARE SOME ROADWAY SECTIONS AND WE IMPLORE YOU TO TAKE GREAT CARE WHEN WALKING ON AND CROSSING THESE ROADS.

Great views of the Winster and Crosthwaite valleys can be had from the cache site where a small clip lock box contains the log book etc. Follow the Bridleway down to the first gateway cutting across the North side of the boggy ground to cross a stile into a bracken covered corner of a field before crossing another stile onto the road.main road cutting through a small boggy area of ground. The footpath cuts across West through a couple of stiles before the road. Another stile in the wall opposite takes you around a rocky area then through another stile into the Farm Track to Greenbank Farm.
