This cache has been placed with permission of the owner of the property. She is a geocacher and wants you to enjoy this old schoolhouse she purchased last year. It should be easy to find this ammo box.
One of the things I love about Geocaching is the history of the sites and places I have visited all because of this great hobby!
This ammo box has been placed on the property of Keepsake Threads. This one-room school house was built in 1918. This is an interesting fact because in 1898 State Superintendent David Geeting officially called for consolidation of schools in order to provide graded schools. Between 1890 and 1900, half of the 8,000 one-room district schools in Indiana were eliminated by consolidation. The final blow to the one-room school came in 1907 when the Indiana General Assembly gave the State Superintendent the means to close districts where attendance was under 12 pupils. School consolidation was nearly complete in Indiana in 1918. Yet, this little one-room schoolhouse was built in 1918 and it is believed to be one of the last one-room schoolhouses to be built in Allen County.
The schoolhouse changed owners a number of times. It was renovated into a private residence in the recent past but is now home to a business. The cache has been placed with permission of the owner. A disposable camera has been placed in the cache. If you would be so kind, please take a picture of yourself and note on your log which # on the camera is you. When the camera is full, I will download the images to the site.
