In 1974, a movie was released starring Burt Lancaster, Susan Clark, Cameron Mitchell, and Daisy Duke (Catherine Bach) before The Dukes of Hazzard. Now, it really wasn't a great movie--just a made-for-TV caliber whodunit, but what is important is that it was filmed in and around Clemson, SC. The title: The Midnight Man
In fact, there are a couple of scenes where the bus drops of a character or two at the old "Clemson bus station." I hear that, in fact, you could once catch a bus from right beside Mell Hall, just as is seen in the movie.
Sadly, that isn't the case these days.
Other locales include an old bar (The Round Table), which is now The Athletic Department sports store on Highway 123 and the old indoor swimming pool in the basement of the Holtzendorf YMCA. That pool was covered just a year or two ago and transformed into some sort of teaching lab, I think. It's also a hoot to see the final scene, as the credits roll, with students walking across the park between Johnstone Hall and the Library/Riggs Hall area.
Now that you're up-to-date on the only movie ever filmed in Clemson, you might want to rent it or watch it on late night TV. In the meantime, you can snag this nano right beside the old bus stop. [Note: no longer so close to the old stop, but not too far from there.]
