Geocache Description:

Welcome to Randsburg, a living ghost town!
You’re looking for a smaller sized cache camouflaged to match the ground.
This cache was placed during the 2011 Old West Days Event and contains lots of fabulous SWAG!

Historians beg the question: Why was the famous Rand Mining District the last to be discovered?
Kernville and Havilah were active mining camps in the 1860’s.
Cerro Gordo, Darwin, and Panamint City all became well known names by 1870.
The Red Rock Canyon, Goler, and Summit Placers began during the early 1890’s.
In 1880 huge borax teams from Death Valley were passing within 3 miles of Rand Lodes on their way to the railroad at Mojave, yet Randsburg lay undiscovered until 1895.
It is extraordinary really that the gold treasures of the Rand remained unknown to man for so long. To date this has been among the richest gold mining districts ever found.
While in Randsburg treat yourself to an old fashion fountain soda, located inside a General Store that has been in continuous operation since 1896! Or get "old west" style photos taken with your family!
Multiple fires have destroyed the town throughout the years, and the proprietor of the General Store tells us that anywhere you see an unfilled lot in town is because a fire destroyed what was once there. She explains that there would never have been vacant space in Randsburg during its heyday. As evidence by their gorgeous fire house, they don’t intend to lose any more of this town’s history.
