Possession of the land which comprises Deer Creek Fish and Wildlife
Area began in 2010 with a transfer of 1,962 acres from the
Putnamville Correctional Facility to the Indiana Department of
Natural Resources, Division of Fish & Wildlife. Deer Creek FWA
is comprised of rolling interspersed agriculture and mature oak
hickory dominated woods. A four acre pond is located on the north
portion of Deer Creek that offers fishing for bass, bluegill and
catfish. Deer Creek winds through the south portion of the property
and is associated with one low head dam, iron bridge and a concrete
creek crossing. A smaller unnamed creek crossed the north portion
of the property.
