Geocache Description:

This cache is one of twelve participating caches
in The Crystal Lake Park District
"90 Years of Fun Geocoin Challenge"!

In 1972 The Park District acquired 13 acres of property on the south side of Barlina Road and named it Hill Farm Park. The park is named after Ivan Hill who operated a dairy farm there during the 1960’s. When Mr. Hill decided to name his farm he came up with Barlina Farm by combining the names of his three children Barry, Lisa, and Nina.

Four of the original buildings remain on the property, and are being used by The Park District. The barn and grainery are being used for storage and the smaller house serves as headquarters for The Park Police Department. The larger house is known as Barlina House and is the site of The Park District preschool program. The park is also the location of a community garden, allowing people without enough room at home the opportunity to grow their own vegetables.

As you seek this cache, take some time to enjoy the park. It’s always fun to see what’s coming up in the garden. Oh yeah, don’t worry about the police or preschool staff. They have been thoroughly briefed on geocaching, so you shouldn’t have any unpleasant occurrences.
