The sixth installment (and fifth cache) of our mostly-annual Rolling Thunder outing. This was the first time we went motorized (hence "MRT1"), trading in our mountain bikes for motorcycles and hitting the remote Magruder Corridor in Idaho.

Burnt Knob lies along the historic, 101-mile, single-lane, mostly-unimproved Magruder Corridor Road in Idaho. This remote ribbon of dirt winds through a vast undeveloped area, offering solitude and pristine beauty as well as expansive mountain views. The corridor was created in 1980 leaving a unique road that enables a traveler to drive between two wildernesses: the 1.2 million-acre Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness to the north, and the 2.3-million-acre Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness to the South. The road itself has changed little since its construction by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in the 1930s.
The 1.5-mile road up to Burnt Knob is extremely rough and suitable only for high-clearance 4x4 vehicles, and is the reason that I have rated the terrain at 3.5 on this cache. If you can make it to the top, though, you will be treated to phenomenal views out over the Nez Perce National Forest to the west and the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness to the east.
You are looking for a small Lock-n-Lock style container covered with camouflage tape. Please use care when retrieving and replacing the cache in its hiding spot as it is a tight fit.
