E.W. Mente Park at Touro Infirmary Traditional Cache
BrewSleuth: Noticed there was new construction at the hospital a few weeks back, so visited cache to give it a check. The area has been landscaped and replanted. Had a replacement cache with me but found I was forcing it to work. Thought I'd return with a different container but after some consideration decided it is best to archive for now.

Plaque reads:
The E.W. Mente Park
In Appreciation Of His Genereosity To
Touro Infirmary
1925
I discovered this park while visiting a patient at Touro Hospital. After sitting on the bench where the plaque is mounted, I wanted to find out who E.W. Mente was. The following is from the New York Times archives.
E.W. MENTE GIVES TO TOURO INFIRMARY (New York Times - February 10, 1917) Announcement was made yesterday through Jewish charitable circles here of the gift of $50,000 to Touro Infirmary in New Orleans by Eugene W. Mente of Mente & Co., dealers in burlap and burlap bags with an office at 60 Beaver Street. Mr Mente's partner is E.B. Benjamin, President of the infirmary, and Mr. Mente's gift is in recognition of his partner's services. Mr. Mente's business interests lie largely in New Orleans. The gift is noteworthy, the announcement says, as ranking Mr. Mente among those Christians who have contributed liberally to Jewish institutions. Mr. Mente's gift will be employed to erect a free clinic.
Please conceal cache as found and do not attempt this cache if muggles are bench sitting.
Parking is tight but paid parking is available in two adjacent lots. Metered parking is free in the evening and on weekends.
