This cache is located at the end of the Old Line and the start
of the causeway over to Roa Island.
This was a spur of the moment cache which was placed during a walk
from Barrow docks via the Westfield Nature Trail. The cache is
placed at the end of the old railway line and the causeway over to
Roa Island. The causeway was built in the mid 1840’s and was
built to allow rail access to a deep water berths for ferry trips
to Fleetwood. The railway was in use until 1936.
Nearby is a pub called the Concle which seems to be named after a
bank located in Walney cannel called the Concle Bank.
This cache can be picked up as a drive by cache and dash
(geocruising)
The old line runs from Barrow to Rampside and has been tarmacked
which makes it suitable for: walking, cycling, pushchairs and wheel
chairs. The route is mainly flat with a bit of a hill halfway
along. A detour can be made around the Westfield Nature Trail which
is only suitable for walkers. Today’s walk was started from
the car park located at N54°05.994', W003°12.622' accessed by road
from The Strand near St Georges church (worked out at a 6.5 mile
walk).
