This cache is placed close to a fairly active intersection in Glen Miller park, so watch out for curious eyes. If a muggle family is enjoying a picnic at a nearby shelter you'll probably have to try for this one another time. It should be a pretty easy find, but be a little careful or you might find yourself tumbling a short distance down a little hill.
My 9-year-old daughter really wanted to place a cache in Glen Miller park. Since there are already a few we had to be careful to locate ours in a spot that was far enough away from the others but still interesting enough to satisfy my geo-sense.
We found a pretty good spot, but we were at a little bit of a loss when trying to think of a name. While I was preparing the cache we saw a little raccoon scavenging for leftovers near the car. I decided to move away from the car so as to let the little fellow approach his supper with less trepidation from my immediate presence. I told my daughter to stay quietly in the car, and she was rewarded with a very close approach by the raccoon. This girl loves animals of all kinds, and she was thrilled that she got a really good, long look at a cute little critter - a matter of just a couple of feet - from the safe observation post behind the car window.
He eventually grew uncomfortable enough with our presence to retreat into the little wooded area behind the picnic shelter, giving us a nice little experience and a good name for the cache.
The cache is a micro - log only, BYOP. And say "Hello" to the raccoon for us if you see him.
